Fox News is a malevolent and destructive force

From lies to racism, anti-Semitism, anti-immigrant hate, and dangerous conspiracy theories—perpetuating bigotry and misinformation is at Fox News’ core. This toxicity goes straight from Fox News shows to President Donald Trump’s ears, on to his Twitter feed, and into his policies.

From its “straight news” side to opinion shows and prime time, the network’s extreme toxicity is rampant. The network attempts to use “straight news” anchors to cover up the opinion side’s rampant lies, but advertisers cannot be fooled: The same lies and misinformation are happening on both the opinion side and the “news” side. A Media Matters investigation found that the "news side" isn't as inoculated as the network claims. We looked at Fox News and Fox Business programming for the first four months of 2019, and we documented examples of the "news" division spreading misinformation on air every single day between January 1 and April 30.

A Fox News lie is a Fox News lie, no matter when it runs -- and advertisers shouldn’t want to be associated with this fearmongering and rampant misinformation. When Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, or Laura Ingraham get in trouble, Fox corporate points to its “news” hosts, but all Fox News programs are cogs in the same propaganda machine, spreading the same lies. Fox News is and remains the root of the problem, not merely a few prime-time hosts — and companies should not be fooled.

Financial Times U.S. National Editor Edward Luce, conservative columnist Max Boot, Hollywood Reporter Editor-at-Large Kim Masters, producer and director Judd Apatow, and countless others called out Fox News' remaining advertisers for continuing to support the network.

Fox News will not change unless forced. We need a persistent effort, starting with pressure on Fox News' major advertisers to reject the network, until Fox actually imposes and enforces some baseline standards.

Make no mistake: the network is a pernicious and destructive force in our democracy and has shown no sign that it will correct course on its own.

Right now, companies that do business with Fox News are financially supporting bigotry, dangerous lies, and harmful conspiracy theories. Since the network is a propaganda operation, these companies are also financially supporting and enabling Trump's politics.

Enough is enough. Take action. Tell advertisers to stop sponsoring Fox News.
